Timeline

1940’s

Niles Chemical Paint, Inc. was founded in 1948 by Marvin Hannewyck II. The purpose? Manufacture innovative coatings to meet challenging customer needs in rapidly changing industries.

1950’s

Developed the widely recognized red wheel paint famously seen on Studebaker automobiles. This was amongst the first steps for NCP into high performance coatings.

1960’s

As NCP served local customers faster and better than distant suppliers, industrial business grew across southwestern Michigan and northern Indiana. Customers relied on NCP’s unique ability to develop custom solutions—a focus continually setting NCP apart.

1970’s

Working with Army Research Laboratories to develop the first CARC products, NCP entered the ground-based defense and naval marketplace. Furthermore, Dr. Donald Dahm came aboard to begin Naval coating developments.

1980’s

Neil Hannewyck becomes the President of NCP Coatings. As concerns around the environmental impacts of coatings drove more laws and regulation, NCP developed solutions at the front of these trends including its first waterborne industrial performance products.

1990’s

Developed market-leading, proprietary tree and boundary marking coatings for the US Forestry Service, helping protect the nation’s vast forests from unlawful poaching. NCP is the exclusive supplier to the USFS for these high-performance coatings.

2000’s

Marvin’s grandsons, Ben and Nat Hannewyck, take over leadership. NCP developed products in coordination with Department of Defense laboratories to meet the very demanding needs of US military services. Growth in the commercial markets and with manufacturing customers and regional Distributors began to accelerate.

2010’s

In close cooperation with the US Navy’s Naval Research Laboratories, NCP developed Siloxoshield®, the industry-leading 1K Polysiloxane which retains a sole and exclusive approval from the US military. NCP also accelerated development of more environmentally compliant products, helping customers meet challenging regulations around VOC compliance and user safety.

2020’s

In 2021, NCP Coatings LLC was born as Ben and Nat Hannewyck sold a majority stake to private investors. New investments paired with a leadership team who collectively have 120+ years of industry experience, launched rapid growth into multiple National and Global Distribution outlets helping lead the way for NCP today and into the future.
